Lille 2002

Probably my best championships in terms of overall performance. I went into these championships with very indifferent form and a lot of points to prove.
In the club I was poor in the first round, and was suprised to be in the lead with just over 27m. I relaxed in the second round and broke my then World Record to eventually win comfortably with 31.29m (link to results).
The discus was the icing on the cake for these championships, I had to flight hard to get UKA to enter me and I wasn't expected to be very competitive. I almost didn't get in the competition as my frame was too high. A few roles of duck tape later and I was in - throwing a Personal Best and over the then World Record. The athlete in the lead was being protested so I thought I had the gold in the bag, only for Karim Bettina to smash the World Record - 19.13m which still stands today. I came second with a European Record of 16.65m (link to results).
