Atlanta 1996

My first Paralympic experience and also my first time going away on my own, having just turned 16 I was the youngest member of the Great Britain track and field team. The holding camp was at an air force base in Pensacola, and it proved to be the lap of luxury compared to the Paralympic Village.
To say this wasn't the best organised games would be a gross understatement but the opening and closing ceremonies were easily the best I've been to.
There was plenty of incident for my competition, which I was hoping would go smoothly. Atlanta was hit by the edge of a hurricane which delayed my competition by a few hours, in which time I went to sleep and my coach took very good care of me. We eventually got out on the in field at about 10pm, there was 6 in my competition so it only took a couple of hours.
I don't remember much about the competition, it's all a bit of a blur. I didn't feel nervous and threw a Paralympic Record 25m 84cm with my 5th throw to take the gold medal (link to results). I became the youngest ever Great Britain track and field gold medalist.
